A Post About Traveling, Shopping, and Leg-Shaving

I travel a lot. I also shave my legs. (Don’t hate, feminists.)

When it comes time to pack for a trip, I toss my razor into my well-worn cosmetic bag along with my toothbrush, tinted moisturizer, lip gloss, dental floss, etc. I hate packing that razor though. I have an irrational fear that, after a particularly long and exhausting journey, I will carelessly thrust my hand into my cosmetic bag and cut myself on the razor. Also, women’s razors take up a lot of space.

But the razor always gets packed. And that razor is always a Venus.

I’m currently visiting my mother in Hilton Head, South Carolina, in the United States. I brought my Venus along as usual, but I accidentally left it in the cosmetic bag and forgot bring it into the shower with me. It didn’t matter though, because my mom has her own Venus in the shower. (I know it’s probably bad form to use someone else’s razor. But she’s my mother.) Anyway, the story proves that Venus razors are the best and every leg-shaving woman in the world knows this.

When I was invited to participate in a blogger campaign promoting the new Gillette Venus Snap razor — a campaign that involves shaving, traveling, and (best of all) shopping — I said yes. I have obvious brand loyalty and the Venus campaign was too much fun to pass up.

So here’s the deal. The new Venus Snap razor is a small, portable version of the original Venus, and it’s designed specifically for women on the go. It’s easy to grip even though it’s small, it has five blades, and it comes with its own little case (which means no accidental hand slices).

The idea behind the campaign is for me to talk about what I’ll be doing over the December holidays and how my new Venus Snap razor fits into that plan. I’m pleased to say that I’ll be staying in Joburg this December, enjoying my own city for the entire month. This will be the first time in four years that I’ll be “home” for Christmas. I can’t wait to spend quality time with my boyfriend, wander around Joburg taking pics, revisit old hangouts, and discover new hidden places. And shave my legs (obvs).

Venus gave me some money to buy things that I’ll be throwing into my bag over December, along with a new Venus Snap. Here are a few of the things I bought.

Venus bag resizedOf course I bought a shirt that says “Gimme’ pizza” (because pizza). I also bought a watch with a rabbit on it (because bunny), some SPF-30 tinted moisturiser (because skin cancer), new sandals, and a quirky African-print hat. Best of all, I bought an Instax camera that takes extra wide pictures. I want to shake up my photography game and I’m planning an Instax-only photowalk. (I see that almost all of the other bloggers participating in this campaign also bought Instax cameras — check the #VenusOnTheGo hashtag on Instagram. Instax photography is apparently the hottest trend in South Africa this Christmas.)

And now for the good part, when I tell you how you can win a shopping spree worth R20,000 at TopShop from Venus. Here’s what you need to do to stand a chance to win:

  • Buy a Venus Snap razor.
  • Snap a flat lay image (along the lines of the photo above), including your Venus Snap.
  • Upload it to Instagram and use the hashtag #VenusOnTheGo.
  • Read the competition terms and conditions on the GilletteSA Facebook page. (Note the contest is for South Africans only. Don’t hate, foreigners.)

That’s it for now, although you’ll be hearing more from me about this over the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you like traveling and shopping and shaving, go buy the Venus Snap and enter the contest.

I have no travel, but that is cool about the compact razor. I keep reading about how women’s razors are no better, but cost more than men’s. So I am doing my own test for a few months with men’s razors. Then I will go back to Venus and see if I notice a difference!

I’ve heard that before too. But I love Venus too much to consider switching. Maybe it’s the cuteness factor. I’ll be curious to hear your verdict.

Yeah, they count on the cute pink factor. And they charge more, too!

Um, what gave you the idea that feminists judge women for shaving? That’s pretty odd considering that all the feminists I know personally are firmly in support of womens’ rights to choose what to do with their own bodies.

Sorry, I actually don’t think feminists would judge. That was just a poor attempt at humor. Sorry if I offended 🙂
