by 2summers | May 11, 2022 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Jozi Top Fives

As many of you already know, I’ve been on a mission to discover Joburg’s best shawarmas. This turned out to be a bigger challenge than I initially anticipated. One of many photos of me eating a shawarma, in this instance at the Schwarma Co. in Norwood. All...

by 2summers | Aug 17, 2021 | Brixton, COVID-19, Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Jozi Top Fives, Melville and Surrounds

I hadn’t planned to blog about pandemic dining (sorry, I realize that’s a horrible term) today. But just a few minutes ago I was chatting with a friend about how few restaurants I feel comfortable eating in right now. The Richmond, just around the corner...

by 2summers | Aug 12, 2020 | COVID-19, Johannesburg, Johannesburg Day Trips, Jozi Top Fives, Lodging, Parks/Nature Reserves

Five Great Jozi Cheese Shops

by 2summers | Apr 23, 2019 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Jozi Top Fives, Markets/Shopping

I love cheese. I just ate a toasted cheese sandwich like 30 seconds ago. And while Joburg is no Paris, there are a few really good spots to buy cheese in this town and I thought I should profile them as part of my Jozi Top Fives series. Maurine, the brilliant cheese...

Trekked to Montecasino last night for the first ti Trekked to Montecasino last night for the first time in years to see Pieter-Dirk Uys -- pronounced ‘Ace’, as Pieter instructs everyone outside South Africa -- in his one-man show at @pietertoerienproductions. It was super interesting…I didn’t know Pieter’s mom was Jewish and escaped Germany right before the holocaust. Also it was very funny although I miss the best jokes because I don’t speak Afrikaans. Thanks @buzinthecity for the invite! 📸 @thethinking_hand #hosted

From the outside it looks just like the White House. I am back in Joburg and experiencing the slowest jet lag recovery of all time but I’ll hopefully have a blog post up about my trip to Rhode Island in the next day or two. #rhodeisland

I somehow never knew until yesterday that Frederic I somehow never knew until yesterday that Frederick County, right next to Carroll County (where I’m from), has three historic covered bridges. One of them, the Utica Mills Bridge, was originally built around 1843, but got partially destroyed in a flood and moved/rebuilt in its current location around 1891. The bridge didn’t look very exciting on its own so @tenneymason and I staged a photoshoot with Dad’s Jeep, Hella Yella. #maryland #coveredbridge
