Call of the Melville Mielie Lady

by 2summers | Apr 6, 2022 | Arts and Culture, Johannesburg, Melville and Surrounds

If you live in Melville, or have lived in Melville at any point between December and April over the past few decades, then you know the call of the Mielie Lady. “Meeeeeeee-LEEEEEEEEEEES?!” she begins. Her voice echoes down the thick tunnel of plane trees,...

Brixton Light Festival Magic

by 2summers | Feb 8, 2022 | Arts and Culture, Brixton, Johannesburg, Melville and Surrounds, Music/Festivals

I hadn’t planned to blog about pandemic dining (sorry, I realize that’s a horrible term) today. But just a few minutes ago I was chatting with a friend about how few restaurants I feel comfortable eating in right now. The Richmond, just around the corner...

by 2summers | Mar 9, 2021 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Melville and Surrounds

For obvious reasons, lots of people have been asking me for outdoor dining recommendations — specifically restaurants with gardens. And considering this city has one of the best climates on earth, restaurant gardens are surprisingly hard to find in central...
