by 2summers | Feb 11, 2021 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Sandton and Surrounds

Tenth in an occasional series about my favorite coffee shops in Joburg.  Remember the good old days, when I used to meet people for coffee in interesting places and then blog about it? I’m ready to bring those days back. Last week the Johannesburg in Your Pocket...
Jozi Restaurant Round-Up

Jozi Restaurant Round-Up

by 2summers | Oct 9, 2019 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Melville and Surrounds, Sandton and Surrounds

When I first started 2Summers, I blogged about practically every Jozi restaurant I went to. (Even Spur.) I’m a bit more selective these days, as writing about every restaurant in town is neither feasible nor desirable. But I’ve been to quite a few...

by 2summers | Mar 28, 2019 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Sandton and Surrounds

UPDATE (May 2019): The Coalition Pineslopes location has closed. You can still eat Coalition’s delicious Margherita pizza at their location on Bolton Road in Rosebank, and they will soon be offering their “Kitchen Table” experience again at a new...
Not Cycling Through Alexandra Township

Not Cycling Through Alexandra Township

by 2summers | Mar 19, 2019 | Arts and Culture, Johannesburg, Museums and Buildings, Sandton and Surrounds, Townships/Informal Settlements

I recently found myself not cycling on a cycle ride through Alexandra Township. It was a hard job riding around Alex in a comfortable car, photographing the cyclists as they toiled in the hot sun. But someone had to do it. I was supposed to cycle, but there...

September Restaurant of the Month: Lexi’s Healthy Eatery

by 2summers | Sep 28, 2018 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Restaurant of the Month, Sandton and Surrounds

Halfway through my recent book club meeting, I felt compelled to interrupt the robust literary conversation with an important statement and follow-up question. “These salads are amazing!” I exclaimed to Cingashe, the host. “Where are they...

by 2summers | Apr 13, 2018 | Food and Drink, Johannesburg, Sandton and Surrounds

I hadn’t been to the Klipriviersberg Nature Rese I hadn’t been to the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve in many years — more than a decade, in fact — and had forgotten how vast and wild it is. We almost turned around and left when we saw the overflowing parking lot but once inside it was not nearly as crowded as we’d feared. Most of the time it felt as empty as this photo. We walked more than 10k and I’m exhausted now. Highly recommended, only 20 minutes from central Joburg, and it’s free! Also there’s a nice cafe at the Kibler Park entrance. #discoverjoburg

I have so many photos from our wild road trip and I have so many photos from our wild road trip and so many blog posts to write - it’s quite overwhelming. Here’s a shot I meant to share more than a week ago, of a crazy pink church in a tiny Eastern Cape Town called Hofmeyr. I can’t remember the name of the lady in the picture. #blogitectroadtrip
