by 2summers | Jan 21, 2023 | Ekurhuleni (East Rand), Food and Drink, Johannesburg

Tomorrow is the Lunar New Year — the Year of the Rabbit — and this is my first Joburg post of 2023. In celebration of both these facts, I’m thrilled to tell you about Tea and Antique, a brand-new Chinese establishment in Bedfordview. Tea and Antique,...

A few shots from our outing to the massive, frenet A few shots from our outing to the massive, frenetic Joburg fresh produce market last Friday. This is such a wild place - read about it in my most recent blog post (link in profile). #discoverjoburg
Standing in the tea-colored water in the Buffelsja Standing in the tea-colored water in the Buffelsjags River in Suurbraak, Western Cape. The water tastes totally normal — better than average, in fact — but is colored this way because of tannins. (Need to do more research on this.) Anyway this is a lovely little hamlet - more photos to come soon. 📸 @thethinking_hand #southafrica
Yesterday morning I went with @thethinking_hand an Yesterday morning I went with @thethinking_hand and @dizzylexa to the Joburg Market, the largest fresh produce market in the Southern Hemisphere, in City Deep. This is where most of Joburg’s restaurants, shops, and food vendors get the fruit and veg that we eat every day. The market is the size of a small city! Here are a few photos and videos from Apple Queens, one of many wholesalers operating at the market. (Thanks for the invite @pranaynagar.) More to come soon on my blog 🍎🍌🥑🍆🍍#discoverjoburg

Trekked to Montecasino last night for the first ti Trekked to Montecasino last night for the first time in years to see Pieter-Dirk Uys -- pronounced ‘Ace’, as Pieter instructs everyone outside South Africa -- in his one-man show at @pietertoerienproductions. It was super interesting…I didn’t know Pieter’s mom was Jewish and escaped Germany right before the holocaust. Also it was very funny although I miss the best jokes because I don’t speak Afrikaans. Thanks @buzinthecity for the invite! 📸 @thethinking_hand #hosted

The over-the-top insane interiors of Marble House, The over-the-top insane interiors of Marble House, a Vanderbilt holiday home in Newport, Rhode Island. From the outside it looks just like the White House. I am back in Joburg and experiencing the slowest jet lag recovery of all time but I’ll hopefully have a blog post up about my trip to Rhode Island in the next day or two. #rhodeisland
